Mother's Birthday Flowers
After several months of non-stop research about flowers, this was the first arrangement I made. The perfect occasion to turn my research into practice arrived when my mother made another trip around the sun. I wanted to get her a gift that made her feel special. I especially did not want to fall into the trap of generic consumption that had no real thoughtfulness behind it.
So, I designed my first floral arrangement based on who my mother is as a person. These are details that I desire to keep to myself but the result is the blooms below. Every detail from the vessel & flower choice was chosen with my mother in mind. When my mother saw it, she said “I feel so seen.”
Making people feel seen is one of the main goals of Rooted Vernacular Studio. My mother’s arrangement, entitled Phoniex Psalm, is the first time I translated a feeling into the physical material of flowers. This arrangement lasted 4 weeks by draining the old water & refilling the vessel with cold water (mixed with flower food) every 2-3 days.
